What Nomi collects, how it collects it, who we share it with, and how to make it all go away.
Last updated: 2 September 2026
The short version
Nomi’s characters are fictional, and their replies are written by an AI model we do not run ourselves. To produce a reply we have to send the text of your conversation to MiniMax, a third-party AI company. MiniMax is the only AI service we send your data to.
MiniMax is named inside the app, on the consent screen shown before your very first conversation. Nothing is sent until you agree. If you decline you can keep browsing the app, but no conversation takes place.
MiniMax never receives your name, your email address, your Apple ID or your account identifier.
What we collect, and how we collect it
An account identifier — collected automatically when you sign in. When you sign in with Apple we store the opaque identifier Apple gives us. We do not receive your Apple ID password, and if you use Hide My Email we never see the real address.
Your conversations — collected as you type them. The messages you send and the replies you receive are stored on our servers so the conversation still exists the next time you open the app.
A nickname and a gender — only if you type them into the app yourself. Both are optional, both can be left blank, and both can be changed or cleared at any time in the Me tab.
A small amount of technical data — generated automatically as the service runs: request timestamps, error codes, and token counts for capacity planning.
A subscription record — only if you subscribe to Nomi Premium. Apple sends us a transaction identifier, the plan, and the date the subscription expires or renews. It is stored against your account so the app knows what to unlock, and it is deleted with the account.
That is the complete list. We collect nothing through trackers, advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs or device fingerprinting, because the app contains none of them.
What we never collect
We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, calendar, microphone or camera. The app never asks for those permissions.
We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not embed third-party trackers, and we do not sell or rent anything to anyone.
Your payment details never reach us. A Nomi Premium subscription is bought through the App Store, which handles your card and billing address; we receive from Apple only a transaction identifier and the subscription’s period and expiry date, so we can unlock what you paid for.
How your data is used, and who receives it
To produce a reply we send MiniMax: the text of your recent messages in that one conversation, the character’s written definition, and — if you filled them in — your nickname and gender.
MiniMax is the only AI service we send your messages to. If we ever add a second AI provider we will name it in the app, update this page, and ask for your agreement again before any of your data reaches it.
We do not send MiniMax your name, your email address, your Apple ID, your account identifier, or any device or advertising identifier. It receives the conversation text and nothing that identifies you as a person.
That is the only purpose your messages are sent for. They are not used for advertising, for profiling, or for automated decisions with legal effects.
Your conversations are never used to train AI models — not ours, and not MiniMax’s.
We do not read your conversations. Access is limited to what is technically required to operate the service, and message bodies are deliberately kept out of our logs.
The third parties we share data with
Three companies process data on our behalf. Each is bound by the written agreement we have entered into with it, which limits it to processing the data only on our instructions and only for the purposes described here, and which requires it to protect that data to a standard equal to the one described in this policy — confidentiality, security measures appropriate to the risk, and deletion or return of the data when the agreement ends. None of them is permitted to use your data for its own purposes, to sell it, or to train models on it.
MiniMax — the AI provider that generates the characters’ replies (api.minimaxi.com). Receives: the conversation text, the character definition, and your optional nickname and gender. Receives nothing that identifies you. Its privacy policy: https://www.minimax.io/platform/protocol/privacy-policy
Cloudflare — serves the characters’ photographs and video clips and carries traffic to our server. Receives: standard network data such as IP address and request headers. Does not receive your conversations. Its privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
Apple — provides Sign in with Apple, the only way to create an account, and bills Nomi Premium subscriptions through the App Store. We receive from Apple an opaque account identifier and, if you subscribe, a transaction identifier with the subscription’s plan and expiry; Apple does not receive your conversations from us. Its privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
We share your data with no one else. We do not sell it, rent it, or disclose it for anyone’s advertising. We would disclose it only if a valid legal order required us to, and we would tell you unless the law forbade it.
Where your data is processed
Our servers and MiniMax’s are outside the European Economic Area. Where data leaves the EEA we rely on your explicit consent — the one given on the screen shown before your first conversation — together with the contractual safeguards described above.
Legal basis: the AI processing of your messages rests on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by deleting your account. Running the account itself rests on performing our contract with you.
How long we keep it
Conversations are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Operational logs are short-lived and contain no message content.
MiniMax receives each request only in order to answer it; under our agreement it may not retain your data for its own purposes.
Deleting everything
Settings → Delete account removes your account, every conversation and every message. It is immediate and it is permanent — we cannot restore it afterwards, and signing in again creates a brand new, empty account.
Deleting your account also withdraws the consent you gave for AI processing.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export, restrict or delete your data, object to its processing, and withdraw your consent at any time. Deletion is built into the app; for anything else, write to the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
If you live in the EEA or the UK you may also complain to your data protection supervisory authority.
Children
Nomi is for adults. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes materially — in particular if an AI provider is added — we will say so in the app and ask for your agreement again before the change takes effect. The date above always reflects the current version.
